OPTO-ELECTRONICS FACTORY (OLF)
Opto-Electronics Factory, Dehradun (OLF) was established on the 4th of April 1988 with technical collaboration from the erstwhile USSR for the production of hi-tech optical and optoelectronic instruments for tank T-72 and Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) BMP-II also known as SARATH. The state-of-the-art infrastructure was created to fulfill the requirements of the Indian Armed Forces in the field of complex Opto-Electronic devices.
With the induction of T-90S tanks known as BHISMA by the Indian Army in 2001, the existing infrastructure was augmented along with the addition of modern plants and machinery. Besides being equipped with state-of-the-art production facilities, OLF has also developed a capability for advanced designs in Optics and Electronic disciplines.
For the past 27 years, the factory has grown from strength to strength and evolved into a world class facility for the production of Day Vision Devices, Gyro Stabilized Sighting Systems, Laser Range Finders, Tank Fire Control Systems, electronic assemblies for power distribution and control, Passive Night Vision Devices and Thermal Imagers for Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) of the Indian Army.
Since its inception, the factory has acquired great skill and experience in the production of these systems which were later utilized in the development of new sighting systems and up-gradation of existing systems. OLF has entered the field of Thermal Imaging (TI) through the co-production of TI sight for the T-90 tank. While indigenizing the electronic systems of AFVs, OLF has adopted modern electronics to overcome obsolescence and has become a major system integrator in sighting systems, night vision devices, and fire control systems.
